Ingredients:  

Main Ingredients

  • 2 pounds pearl onions peeled
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup grated cheese cheddar or your choice
  • to taste salt and pepper

Instructions: 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Boil the onions in salted water for 5 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  • In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour and cook for 1-2 minutes.
  • Gradually whisk in milk and cream. Cook until thickened, about 5 minutes.
  • Stir in grated cheese until melted. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Combine onions with the sauce and transfer to a baking dish.
  • Bake for 30-35 minutes until golden and bubbly.

Notes:

Great as a side dish for holiday meals.
