Instructions:
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
Mix brown sugar and melted butter in a bowl.
Add egg and vanilla extract, mix well.
Stir in flour, baking powder, and baking soda.
Fold in chocolate chips if using.
Spread batter in a greased 9x9 inch baking pan.
Bake for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Cool before cutting into squares.
