Ingredients:  

Main Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1/2 cup hot water

Instructions: 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking pan.
  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, and cloves.
  • In another bowl, cream the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg, then stir in the molasses.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the hot water. Mix until just combined.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan. Bake for 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Let the gingerbread cool in the pan before cutting into squares. Serve and enjoy!

Notes:

For a festive touch, you can add a dusting of powdered sugar or a dollop of whipped cream before serving.
