Ingredients:  

Main Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons Butter
  • 2 tablespoons All-purpose flour
  • 2 cups Milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon Black pepper freshly ground
  • 1/4 teaspoon Nutmeg optional

Instructions: 

  • 1. Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
  • 2. Add the flour and whisk continuously for about 1-2 minutes until the mixture is smooth and bubbly.
  • 3. Gradually add the milk, whisking constantly to avoid lumps.
  • 4. Continue to cook and whisk until the sauce thickens and comes to a simmer.
  • 5. Season with salt, pepper, and nutmeg if using. Serve over pasta.

Notes:

This white sauce can be used as a base for many other sauces. Add cheese for a cheese sauce or herbs for extra flavor.
