Ingredients:  

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb Dried split peas
  • 1 Ham bone
  • 1 cup Chopped ham
  • 1 cup Chopped onion
  • 1 cup Chopped celery
  • 1 cup Chopped carrots
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 8 cups Chicken broth
  • 1 tsp Dried thyme
  • 1 tsp Salt to taste
  • 1 tsp Black pepper to taste

Instructions: 

  • Rinse the split peas under cold water.
  • In a large pot, combine all ingredients.
  • Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for about 2 hours, stirring occasionally.
  • Remove the ham bone, chop any meat left on the bone, and return the meat to the pot.
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve hot.

Notes:

For a smoother soup, blend half of the soup and mix it back in.
