Instructions:
Rinse the split peas under cold water.
In a large pot, combine all ingredients.
Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for about 2 hours, stirring occasionally.
Remove the ham bone, chop any meat left on the bone, and return the meat to the pot.
Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve hot.
Notes:
For a smoother soup, blend half of the soup and mix it back in.
