Basic Beef Stock Recipe

Ingredients:  

Main Ingredients

  • 2 lbs beef bones preferably with some meat on them
  • 1 onion quartered
  • 2 carrots chopped
  • 2 stalks celery chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic crushed
  • 1 tbsp black peppercorns
  • 1 gallon water

Instructions: 

  • 1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • 2. Place beef bones on a baking sheet and roast for 30 minutes.
  • 3. Transfer roasted bones to a large pot. Add onion, carrots, celery, garlic, peppercorns, bay leaves, and water.
  • 4. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 4 hours.
  • 5. Strain the stock through a fine-mesh strainer. Discard solids.
  • 6. Let the stock cool, then refrigerate or freeze for later use.

Notes:

This stock can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 5 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
