Instructions:
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking sheet.
In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt.
In a saucepan, melt butter with water and cocoa powder. Bring to a boil, then remove from heat.
Pour the cocoa mixture over the dry ingredients and mix well.
Add buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.
Pour batter into the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
For the frosting, melt butter in a saucepan. Stir in cocoa powder and milk. Bring to a boil, then remove from heat.
Gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla extract, mixing until smooth.
Pour frosting over the warm cake and spread evenly. Let cool before serving.
Notes:
This cake is best served warm, but it keeps well at room temperature for a few days.
