Ingredients:  

Main Ingredients

  • 4 green tomatoes sliced
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 cup vegetable oil for frying

Instructions: 

  • 1. Slice the green tomatoes about 1/4 inch thick.
  • 2. Set up three bowls: one with flour, one with buttermilk, and one with cornmeal mixed with salt and pepper.
  • 3. Dredge each tomato slice in flour, then dip in buttermilk, and coat with the cornmeal mixture.
  • 4. Heat the oil in a skillet over medium heat. Fry the tomatoes until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  • 5. Drain on paper towels and serve hot.

Notes:

Best served immediately for maximum crispiness.
