Equipment

Ingredients:  

Dough

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tbsp active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup milk warm
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 2 eggs large

Topping

  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 0.5 cup sugar
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions: 

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
  • Add warm milk, softened butter, and eggs. Mix until a dough forms.
  • Knead the dough for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  • For the topping, mix softened butter, sugar, flour, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces and shape into balls. Place on a baking sheet.
  • Flatten a piece of topping dough and place it on top of each dough ball. Score the topping with a knife to create a shell pattern.
  • Let the dough rise again for 30 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 20 minutes or until lightly golden.
  • Let cool before serving.

Notes:

Conchas are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for a few days.
