Instructions:
1. In a saucepan, heat the milk until it is just about to boil.
2. In a bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and sugar until pale and creamy.
3. Slowly pour the hot milk into the egg mixture, whisking constantly.
4. Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until it thickens.
5. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
6. Pour the custard into serving dishes and let it cool before serving.
Notes:
Make sure to stir constantly to avoid lumps.
