Ingredients:  

Main Ingredients

  • 2 lbs rutabaga peeled and chopped
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp molasses
  • 2 tbsp butter melted
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground white pepper
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg

Instructions: 

  • 1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • 2. Boil the rutabaga in a pot of salted water until tender, about 20 minutes. Drain and mash.
  • 3. In a mixing bowl, combine the mashed rutabaga, breadcrumbs, heavy cream, molasses, melted butter, salt, white pepper, and nutmeg. Mix well.
  • 4. Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish and smooth the top.
  • 5. Bake in the preheated oven for 1.5 hours, until the top is golden brown and the casserole is set.

Notes:

This casserole is a staple in Finnish Christmas dinners.
