Russet potatoes

Grated Gruyere cheese

Instructions:
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
Slice the potatoes thinly, but not all the way through, so they stay connected at the bottom.
Place the sliced potatoes in a baking dish.
In a bowl, mix the heavy cream, grated Gruyere cheese, minced garlic, salt, and black pepper.
Pour the cream mixture over the potatoes, making sure it gets between the slices.
Brush the tops of the potatoes with melted butter.
Bake in the preheated oven for about 60 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden brown.
Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
Notes:
For a crispier top, you can broil the casserole for the last 5 minutes of baking.
