In a skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain any excess fat.
Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook until the onion is translucent.
Stir in the beef broth, salt, and pepper. Simmer for a few minutes.
In a baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes. Pour half of the beef mixture over the potatoes. Repeat with the remaining potatoes and beef mixture.
Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
Remove the foil, sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese on top, and bake for an additional 15 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Let the casserole cool for a few minutes before serving.
