French Onion Soup Casserole

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups sliced onions
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp flour
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyere cheese
  • 4 slices French bread toasted

Instructions: 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add onions and sugar, cook until onions are caramelized, about 20 minutes.
  • Sprinkle flour over onions and stir well. Gradually add beef broth, stirring constantly. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes.
  • Pour onion mixture into a baking dish. Top with toasted bread slices and sprinkle with shredded Gruyere cheese.
  • Bake in preheated oven for 15 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Serve hot.

Notes:

For a richer flavor, use a mix of Gruyere and Swiss cheese.
