Instructions:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
In a large saucepan, bring water to a boil and add the pearl onions. Cook for 5 minutes, then drain and set aside.
In the same saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes.
Gradually whisk in the milk, cooking until the mixture thickens. Add the cheese, salt, and pepper, stirring until the cheese is melted.
Add the cooked pearl onions to the sauce and stir to coat. Pour the mixture into a baking dish.
Sprinkle the breadcrumbs evenly over the top of the casserole.
Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the casserole is bubbly.
Notes:
This casserole is a great side dish for holiday meals or family dinners.
