Ingredients:  

Main Ingredients

  • 2 lbs pearl onions peeled
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups milk
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 0.5 cup breadcrumbs

Instructions: 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large saucepan, bring water to a boil and add the pearl onions. Cook for 5 minutes, then drain and set aside.
  • In the same saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes.
  • Gradually whisk in the milk, cooking until the mixture thickens. Add the cheese, salt, and pepper, stirring until the cheese is melted.
  • Add the cooked pearl onions to the sauce and stir to coat. Pour the mixture into a baking dish.
  • Sprinkle the breadcrumbs evenly over the top of the casserole.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the casserole is bubbly.

Notes:

This casserole is a great side dish for holiday meals or family dinners.
