Ingredients:  

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 8 slices Swiss cheese
  • 8 slices rye bread, cubed
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • to taste salt and pepper

Instructions: 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat and cook the onions until they are caramelized, about 10 minutes.
  • Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Stir in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, then let it simmer for a few minutes.
  • In a baking dish, layer half of the cubed rye bread, then half of the beef mixture, and half of the Swiss cheese. Repeat the layers.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes:

This casserole is a great way to enjoy all the flavors of a patty melt without the fuss of making individual sandwiches.
