Ingredients:  

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb Cooter (turtle meat) cleaned and cut into pieces
  • 1 large Onion chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic minced
  • 2 cups Chicken broth
  • 1 cup Diced tomatoes canned
  • 1 cup Okra sliced
  • 1 tsp Salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp Black pepper to taste

Instructions: 

  • 1. In a large pot, heat some oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté until softened.
  • 2. Add the cooter pieces to the pot and brown on all sides.
  • 3. Pour in the chicken broth and diced tomatoes. Bring to a boil.
  • 4. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and let it simmer for about 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the meat is tender.
  • 5. Add the sliced okra, salt, and black pepper. Cook for another 10-15 minutes.
  • 6. Serve hot and enjoy your cooter stew!

Notes:

This is a traditional Southern recipe. Adjust seasoning to your taste.
