Instructions:
1. In a large pot, brown the pork shoulder over medium heat.
2. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, cook until softened.
3. Pour in the chicken broth, add carrots and potatoes. Season with salt and pepper. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 1.5 hours.
4. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt for the dumplings. Stir in milk and melted butter until just combined.
5. Drop spoonfuls of the dumpling batter onto the simmering stew. Cover and cook for another 30 minutes.
