Instructions:
1. Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add chopped onions and sauté until golden.
2. Add beef cubes to the pot and brown on all sides.
3. Stir in turmeric, salt, and black pepper. Add tomato paste and cook for a few minutes.
4. Add yellow split peas, dried limes, and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 1.5 hours.
5. Adjust seasoning if needed. Serve hot with rice.
Notes:
For a richer flavor, you can add a pinch of saffron.
