Instructions:
1. Heat the oil in a large pot over medium heat.
2. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, cook until softened.
3. Add the chicken pieces and brown on all sides.
4. Stir in the thyme, salt, black pepper, and brown sugar.
5. Pour in the chicken broth and tomato sauce, bring to a boil.
6. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 30 minutes.
7. Add the potatoes and carrots, continue to simmer for another 30 minutes or until vegetables are tender.
8. Serve hot with rice or bread.
