French Onion Beef Stew

Ingredients:  

Main Ingredients

  • 2 lbs Beef stew meat cut into chunks
  • 4 large Onions thinly sliced
  • 3 cloves Garlic minced
  • 4 cups Beef broth
  • 1 cup Red wine optional
  • 2 tbsp Flour
  • 2 tbsp Butter
  • 1 tsp Thyme dried
  • 1 tsp Salt or to taste
  • 1/2 tsp Black pepper freshly ground

Instructions: 

  • 1. In a Dutch oven, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the onions and cook until caramelized, about 20 minutes.
  • 2. Add the garlic and cook for another minute.
  • 3. Sprinkle the flour over the onions and garlic, stirring constantly for 2 minutes.
  • 4. Pour in the beef broth and red wine, if using. Stir well to combine.
  • 5. Add the beef, thyme, salt, and pepper. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 2 hours, or until the beef is tender.
  • 6. Serve hot, garnished with fresh thyme if desired.

Notes:

This stew pairs well with crusty bread or mashed potatoes.
