Instructions:
1. Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat.
2. Add the beef chunks and brown them on all sides.
3. Add the chopped onions and minced garlic. Cook until the onions are translucent.
4. Pour in the beef broth and add the bay leaves. Bring to a boil.
5. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and let it simmer for about 1.5 hours.
6. Add the sliced carrots and cubed potatoes. Cook for another 30 minutes or until the vegetables are tender.
7. Season with salt and black pepper to taste. Remove the bay leaves before serving.
Notes:
Serve hot with a slice of rye bread.
