Ingredients:  

Main Ingredients

  • 4 large onions thinly sliced
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup red wine
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Baguette slices
  • Gruyere cheese grated

Instructions: 

  • Set the Instant Pot to sauté mode and melt the butter. Add the sliced onions and sugar, and cook until caramelized.
  • Add the beef broth, red wine, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Close the lid and cook on high pressure for 15 minutes.
  • Allow for a natural pressure release for 10 minutes, then manually release the remaining pressure.
  • Ladle the soup into oven-safe bowls, top with baguette slices and grated Gruyere cheese.
  • Broil in the oven until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Serve hot and enjoy your Instant Pot French Onion Soup!

Notes:

For a vegetarian version, you can use vegetable broth instead of beef broth.
